Segregated Pedestrian Walkways
Segregated pedestrian walkways improve pedestrian safety and reduce pedestrian conflict with vehicles.
About NMPW
The Non-Motorized Pedestrian Walkway (NMPW) is a strategic Lagos urban mobility, public-realm regeneration, pedestrian safety, and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and Commercial Infrastructure initiative designed to transform under-utilised under-bridge spaces into safe, accessible, commercially viable and operationally managed pedestrian corridors integrated with Lagos rail and bus transport systems.

NMPW Overview
NMPW originated from the need to solve persistent urban, safety and mobility challenges around Lagos transport infrastructure corridors, especially beneath elevated bridges and rail infrastructure. The concept was developed to convert these negative urban voids into safe, controlled and productive public infrastructure assets.
What We Provide
NMPW combines safe, accessible pedestrian infrastructure, public-realm regeneration and supporting commuter services to improve first- and last-mile movement along the LRMT Red Line corridor.
Segregated pedestrian walkways improve pedestrian safety and reduce pedestrian conflict with vehicles.
CCTV and operational security systems preserve visibility and security where available.
Lighting and wayfinding systems improve lighting, visibility and pedestrian movement.
Inclusive routes are planned around barrier-free access and varied mobility needs.
Public toilets, sanitation, drainage, cleaning and waste services enhance sanitation and environmental quality.
Commercial retail kiosks and Wi-Fi/data infrastructure may support commuters without compromising mobility.
Ongoing maintenance supports reliable, orderly pedestrian infrastructure.
NMPW Links improve movement between rail, bus and surrounding communities.
The Journey
A safer last-mile connection built around public transport.
Passengers leave the rail station and enter pedestrian infrastructure designed to enhance rail, BRT and bus interchange integration.
Segregated pedestrian walkways improve pedestrian safety, improve first-mile/last-mile connectivity and reduce pedestrian conflict with vehicles.
Lighting and wayfinding systems, CCTV and operational security systems, and accessibility features support safe transitions between transport modes.
The pedestrian connection supports onward movement to BRT and bus services, enhancing rail, BRT and bus interchange integration.
Infrastructure
Practical design features support safe, accessible and connected pedestrian movement.
Segregated pedestrian walkways improve pedestrian safety and reduce pedestrian conflict with vehicles.
Accessible pedestrian routes support accessibility and non-motorised transport.
CCTV and operational security systems preserve visibility and security where provided.
Lighting systems improve lighting and visibility along pedestrian routes.
Drainage, cleaning and waste-management measures enhance sanitation and environmental quality.
Wayfinding systems support first-mile/last-mile connectivity and rail, BRT and bus interchange integration.
Public toilets and sanitation infrastructure may be provided according to the NMPW Link and subsection.
Operationally managed pedestrian corridors support safe, controlled and productive public infrastructure assets.
Wi-Fi/data infrastructure, commercial retail kiosks and transit-oriented commercial activation may support the mobility environment.
NMPW Benefits
NMPW supports safer journeys, stronger transport connections and better-managed public environments.
Segregated walkways reduce pedestrian conflict with vehicles.
Pedestrian connections enhance rail, BRT and bus interchange integration.
Encourage walking, reduce emissions, improve urban liveability and promote non-motorised transport.
Improve aesthetics, formalise under-bridge environments, improve lighting and visibility, and enhance sanitation and environmental quality.
Create structured retail opportunities, formalise informal trading and enable transit-oriented commercial development.
